[ applause ] >> reporter: city leaders and joint managers from the science center to walk arm in arm with the shuttle making her way to her final resting place after a 12-mile trek from l. a. x. through different neighborhoods in los angeles and edgablewood. >> we went through some pretty tough streets of los angeles. and everybody was just universally enthusiastic. >> reporter: enthusiastic despite arriving a half day late. >> time was not the critical factor, safety was. and with the huge crowds we have that slowed us down some. >> reporter: it's estimates one million people lined the route which has been compared to a slow moving parade. as i spoke to people who gathered along the streets, i saw the real gift. >> of the endeavour. the gift of inspiration. >> ever since i've heard about the final mission for the

shuttle. i've -- been thinking ability being an astronaut when i grow up. >> reporter: even though endeavour took her time to get here she's inspired kids like madison to shoot for the stars. >> that was jeff winn reporting. well, san francisco's police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting in the early morning and a police standoff. from 7:00 this morning several shots were fired near the intersection of eddy and webster streets. officers found blood and bullet casings prompting them to go into a nearby home for roughly four hours. the occupants were ordered out of the home. several adults and four children came out and police then arrested a 28-year-old man described as a possible shooting suspect. a gun was not found in the home and it's not clear whether the blood is related to the shots fired. a 56-year-old woman is in custody in san jose accused in a series of arsons. the string of suspicious fires like this one last week began in september and last night,

california is always riding high. >> i just think it's a ripoff. >> reporter: in some experts warn it could get worse because of increased environmental regulations. the state's low carbon fuel standard forces fuel producers to lower the carbon intensity of their gas 10% by 2020. they can do so by adding biofuels like ethanol made from corn, grass or woody plants but supplies are tight which could make the special fuel more expensive to produce. >> oil is still believe it or not cheap. >> reporter: frank directs a program on energy and sustainable development at stanford and studies biofuel feasibility. >> you have to break that down and that's a far you know more complicated if you like in energy intensive process to essentially get to the ultimate product that you want. >> reporter: which could produce more carbon and make it more expensive. last year a judge blocked the new standard for california gas saying it interferes with interstate commerce. but now that ruling is going to

after days of this really is incredible. an austrian man has become the

first sky diver to break the sound barrier. the supersonic free fall this afternoon was successful in the eyes over new mexico. cbs reporter bigad shaban shows us the glitches that almost derailed the sun from the earth's stratosphere. >> reporter: this is what it looks like to break the speed of sound. cameras went along for the ride as felix baumgartner from austria sky dived from the edge of space. 24 miles above new mexico. >> when i was standing there, on top of the world, you become so humble. you do not think about breaking records anymore. you want to come back alive. >> reporter: baumgartner wore a specialized space suit and absolutelied before jumping -- saluted before jumping from a pressurized capsule. within seconds he was flying at speeds over 833 miles per hour. and the times seemed to spin out of control. >> that spin became so violent, over all excess -- it was hard to know how to get out of that spin. >> reporter: baumgartner was able to reach such great heights thanks to the 55 story

east of the oakland hills. here's a look the satellite and they door -- look at the satellite and radar. we are watching a low pressure system. for us here in the bay area it's high pressure leaving us high and nice and dry. we're out the course of the week and yes we are going to see that heat wave. by about the middle of the workweek. pinpoint forecast, so your highs over -- your overnight lows rather are mainly in the 50s. it's going to feel relatively typical for that time of the year. 53 in livermore. 54 in concord and a cooler 50 degrees in santa row sea. for tomorrow's -- rowasa. for tomorrow's highs in concord, livermore and fairfield mid 70s around the bay. 84 or -- 74 rather in oakland. the forecast over the next several days looks like this. that warming trend continues tuesday and wednesday. and wednesday is going to be one of our hottest days. you'll notice the inland spots reaching to the low 90s. we're also going to see an increase in the winds especially in the north and east bay hills.
